The story of Gond Art
Gond art is one of the olders traditional artforms in India and is native to the Patangarh region of Madhya Pradesh.
Gond art is characterised by mythical stories of folklore passed down through generations often through song. In the days of past the Pardhan Gond people mostly wrote songs as invocations to the divine in nature - they were the storytellers preserving mythology and culture.
Gond art originates in the wall decoration they used to make in their house as a part of their daily life, depicting elements of nature - both flora and fauna, scenes of mutuality between humans and animals.
This film traces the work of Gond’s most prominent contemporary exponents - Bhajju Shyam, as he works with digital tools for the first time to create a unique modern interpretation of an age old practice.
